Whoever invented rompers and jumpsuits was truly a genius—they are functional, fashionable, and save you plenty of time pondering what to wear. But if you tend to play it safe with clothing and are new to rompers and jumpsuits, they can be a little daunting at first.
The two styles have been incredibly fashionable for more than a decade so if you don’t already have one hanging in your closet, now is the perfect time to splurge. We promise that they won’t be going out of style any time soon.
Differences between rompers and jumpsuits
The main difference between these two fashion-forward garments is the length. Jumpsuits are usually long enough to cover your legs, all the way down to your ankles, whereas rompers are shorter. Jumpsuits are also considered to be less casual than rompers. You can most definitely get away with wearing a chic jumpsuit to a wedding or work event. But we can’t say the same for rompers as these are best for more casual outings like going to the beach or having drinks on the patio.
Trendy ways to wear rompers
How you style your romper really depends on its look and where you plan on wearing it. If the romper is flirty, floral, or covered in ruffles, finish the look off with strappy wedge sandals and a woven handbag. This look is perfect for tropical vacations and warm weather. If you’ve got a casual, cotton romper that’s simple in shape, it’s always a great idea to top the look off with a denim jacket and white sneakers. Wearing nude heels or sandals with your romper will also make your legs appear longer so try to keep that in-mind when you are shoe-hunting.
It’s also important that your romper isn’t too tight and that its shape compliments your body. Styles that have wrap around belts or tapered waists are usually the best as they’ll highlight your curves.
If you’re really stuck on what color of shoes and accessories to wear with your romper (or jumpsuit), pay attention to what colors are featured in your romper’s pattern. Matching your accessories and footwear to colors already on the garment is a very safe fashion choice that you won’t regret years later.
Trendy ways to wear jumpsuits
This season, denim jumpsuits are incredibly stylish, so we firmly believe that every fashionista needs one hanging in their closet. Slipping on a denim or cargo jumpsuit with a pair of white sneakers and black, vintage-inspired sunglasses is an effortless way to look like a million bucks.
When shopping for jumpsuits, try to find styles that have a built-in belt that will define your waist as some can be rather shapeless. They can also be dressed up for work or fancy events by adding a blazer.
With jumpsuits, ladies need to be extra conscious of its leg width and the footwear that they choose. As a rule of thumb: jumpsuits with a wide leg go best with heels, heeled sandals, or wedges, and jumpsuits with a straight leg can be worn with all types of footwear. Wide leg jumpsuits should seldom be worn with sneakers while jumpsuits with straight legs look fabulous with them.
Selecting a jumpsuit that comes in a solid color is also much more flattering than styles that are covered in wild prints.
